About me

To make my first paintbrush my father cut the hairs from the end of the dog's tail (the dog was fine with that) and lashed them with a length of cotton to a twig. I wish I still had it. With this I messed around with the big tins of watercolours that arrived every year in my Christmas stocking. More artistic excitement was provided by those colouring books where the application of water made the colour appear as if by magic on the page.

I won some school art competitions ( the prizes were chocolate and felt pens) and then I mostly drew ponies for a few years. On finishing school I took a Foundation course and then gained a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Kingston on Thames, close enough to London for lots of exciting gallery and museum visits.

I then dealt in antiques and art for many years, and once my children could spare me I bought paints, brushes and canvas and  started to paint in earnest. Initially my subjects were still life and the wonderful Wiltshire countryside around me, then I moved into abstraction which had always excited me. Now my restless mind leads me from figuration to abstraction and various places in between, all informed by the natural world.

I hope you enjoy looking at my website.
